What's up? Welcome back. This is the AntiFragile Entrepreneurship™ Podcast and this is episode 104. And at the time of this recording, we are kicking off a brand new year. And so this season of the podcast is focused on the first of the four systems we teach to our business students, helping you get more visible, how to get more visibility in today's crowded marketplace while starting a podcast. So in today's episode, I'm going to reveal the quickest way to be recognized as a trusted expert in your niche. And once you have this particular system installed in your business, it's going to help you reach a wider audience with your message. Plus, it will save you time on your marketing efforts every single month. So that's all coming up next, stay tuned.

[Intro Track]

Courtney Elmer

So a question we get asked often is this. How do I reach more people and generate more leads social media isn't doing it for me, growing my email list is taking so long, it seems like it's taking forever to grow that list, I have a message I need to share. I need to know how to get this out to more people, I can help people but I just don't know how to reach them. And if you have ever wondered a version of this to yourself, then you are not alone. This is a question that's top of mind. For every business owner. I don't care what kind of business you have. Starting a podcast is for you.

Courtney Elmer

Because you know that to keep that business open leads are necessary for sales. Because sales are necessary to keep you in business and to have sales you need leads. The problem with this question or any version of this question is that these are the wrong questions to be asking. And the reason this is a problem is because there's a belief, which is inherent in this question, which may be preventing you from getting those leads that you really want. And the belief goes something like this, tell me if this resonates? If I don't have a big enough following, then I won't seem credible. And if I don't appear credible, nobody's going to buy for me. Does that feel true for you? Your unconscious mind might even take this belief to an extreme and go on to say something?

Courtney Elmer

Well, if I don't have a big following, that means nobody likes me. And if nobody likes me, then nobody's gonna buy from me. And if nobody buys for me, I won't make any money. And if I can't make any money, well, my business is doomed. I know what it feels like to be in your shoes. If you are one of those who are nodding your head yes right now, because I used to be exactly where you are. And it was frustrating. I was frustrated showing up every day on social media and not seeing the results that I wanted.

Courtney Elmer

I was frustrating emailing my list, and watching more people unsubscribed and more subscribing every week. And if you've ever felt this way, I want to reassure you that you're not alone. There have been many times in my own business, especially in the early days before I really trusted my own worth and the inherent value in what I have to offer that I mistakenly thought the bigger following I had, the more sales I would make. It's really natural to think this way. In fact, it's very common. Why? Because of comparison.

Courtney Elmer

We look at the influencers that we aspire to be like and we see that they have a big following. They're successful. They're making money. So naturally, if we want to be successful and have a lot of influence, like they do and make a lot of money like they do and impact a lot of people like they do then we need to have a big following in order to do it. That's the thought pattern that happens. That's the logic. But the truth is that's really illogical. But what usually happens is that okay, with this thought mentality, you run out there and you try to crash course every single marketing strategy there is you read every book, you binge every podcast you consume every freebie you can get your hands on you consume every course you can buy to teach you whatever it is you feel like you don't know or that you aren't an expert in yet. And you watch what the other influencers are doing, and you try to imitate them.

Courtney Elmer

And sure, yeah, on the one hand As the saying goes, imitation is the best form of flattery. It's also a way that we learn. We've been doing it since we were kids. But imitation is the best way to be recognized in your niche, said, no one ever. We know that imitation. While it may be flattering to the influencer, who you are trying to imitate, is not going to set you apart from the crowd. If anything, it's going to make you blend in more.

Courtney Elmer

So are you beginning to see the problem inherent in this line of thinking, first of all, the belief that you need to grow a bigger following in order to have credibility only creates a sense of urgency to hurry up and build a big following. So you might pour all your time and all your energy and all your effort into building a following, but because it takes so long, and it's so slow to grow, you wind up burnt out and completely exhausted, wanting nothing more than to unplug from all of it because it's unsustainable. And if you've ever been in a position like that, you might have also concluded that whatever marketing means you've tried well, those don't work for me.

Courtney Elmer

reels don't work for me. Instagram doesn't work for me. Lead Magnets, I haven't had any success with those. Those don't work for me, Facebook Lives tried those boom, nope, throw those out the window, it doesn't work for me either. Facebook groups, those don't work for me, when the fact of the matter is trying to get an audience to notice you by imitating the same thing that everyone else is doing, waters down your message. And worse, it makes you forgettable.

Courtney Elmer

Because suddenly you've made yourself a commodity. You're doing what everyone else is doing. You're hoping for the same result. And what you haven't realized is that copy and pasting the strategies some influencer is doing is like shouting to the masses with a whisper. Which is why it often feels like your message is falling on deaf ears. Now listen closely to my voice right now, I am not saying that social media is bad. I am not saying not to grow your email list.

Courtney Elmer

But wouldn't it be nice if there was a way that you could grow your list on autopilot and generate content for your social media and half the time and have the content you create actually get noticed by your ideal person for them to actually say, Hmm, this person's different. Let me lean in a little closer and see what they have to say. And they follow you. And they start watching and they start paying attention.

Courtney Elmer

Now, if I could show you a way to grow your email list, and cut your content creation time in half, and capture the attention of your ideal client on your terms without having to dance on Instagram reels or show up on lives everyday with a full face of makeup or run expensive ad campaigns. Would you want to hear it? Alright, I'm going to go ahead and assume that you're nodding your head yes, right now. So let's continue. The fastest, most effective way I found to expand your reach without paid traffic, source new Perfect Fit leads. And build know like and trust quickly so that those leads are primed and ready to buy from you is with this little tool that you're using right now. 100 Humble podcast. Starting a podcast.

Courtney Elmer

Now, before you skip to the next episode, and think, Oh Courtney Elmer, I could never be starting a podcast or Oh no Courtney Elmer, I do not have time to be starting a podcast. Listen closely to my voice right now. starting a podcast is the most effective way to reach a wider audience with your message and capture the attention of your ideal client. It is also the fastest way to build know like and trust because it creates a deeper connection with those ideal clients. And it gets them excited to buy your stuff, whether that be products or programs or services. starting a podcast is the quickest way to position yourself as an expert in your industry or your niche because of the way that it elevates your authority. So that even if you don't have a big following, your audience will begin to see you and recognize you as a trusted leader. And starting a podcast will actually save you time on content creation.

Courtney Elmer

It's going to help you spend less time on social media so that you can take that time and put it back into your business on the things that actually generate revenue. Because when you do it right, starting a podcast will quickly become the source of any other piece of content you ever create. It will be the source for all of your Instagram posts. It will be the source For all of your live videos, any blogs that you write any email newsletters that you put out any lead magnets that you create, and so much more.

Courtney Elmer

So, no more of that scrambling around every week racking your brain trying to figure out what am I going to say to my audience this week, feeling like you've already taught them everything that you know. Because here's the thing. Here's what I really, really want you to understand. And if you walk away from this episode with nothing else here, this, starting a podcast is not a marketing tactic. It's a marketing strategy. With starting a podcast, you can add a steady stream of new leads and revenue to your business every week without running expensive ad campaigns, or hustling your little heart out on social media to try to reach new people. And the best part about starting a podcast that I've found is that if you're someone like me who struggles with consistency, I'm gonna be straight up honest with you there.

Courtney Elmer

I am not the most consistent person in the world, I like to think I'm more consistent than I am. But I'm really not. If you're someone who struggles with consistency, also known as when life and other responsibilities seem to always get in the way of you being able to show up for your audience day in and day out. starting a podcast will help to hold you accountable. Why because you are accountable to your audience, you're accountable to that listener base, who is waiting for you, they are waiting for your message week after week after week. starting a podcast has been the most consistent thing I have ever done in my business.

Courtney Elmer

I don't know if I should be proud to say that or really embarrassed to say that maybe a little bit of both. But it has been the most consistent thing I have ever done in our business. So if these reasons I've shared with you is not enough for you to want to be starting a podcast, then let me also share some recent stats with you. Because here in the US alone, there are over 120 million listeners, at the time of this recording. That number is projected to grow to 160 million listeners within the next year

Courtney Elmer

Let me say that, again. The podcast listener base here in just the US we're not even talking globally, we're not talking Canada, we're not talking the UK, we're not talking Australia, we're just talking to us, is projected to grow by 40 million listeners this year. But get this I'm gonna bend your mind with some numbers here. There are only around 850,000 active podcasts in the whole world today. So let me make this really simple. More listeners than there are podcasts to listen to equals huge, huge opportunity to be starting a podcast.

Courtney Elmer

Are you beginning to get this? Can you imagine what it might be like starting a podcast that does everything I've shared with you that it can do for you and for your business, and what it might feel like to be starting a podcast that is top ranked. And finally experience what it's like not only to have that authority, and be in that role of leader of your message, and to bring that message to more people, but to have people actually see your worth and see your value as the leader that you are not to mention more leads and sales for your business. Now, here's another statistic for you. The podcast industry as a whole is projected to grow by 27 and a half percent over the next seven years. So if you are thinking of starting a podcast, now is the time don't be on the back end of that growth curve.

Courtney Elmer

In fact, one of our students recently shared this with me, she said, I wanted to share a few wins. Since launching and starting a podcast last July, I have been getting more opt ins from my podcast than anywhere else. In fact, the majority are now coming via my podcast. And I have big brands reaching out to me to be on my show. And I'm also getting way more engagement from my audience in the way of reaching out asking to work with me and sharing how valuable they are finding the content. All from starting a podcast.

Courtney Elmer

And she went on to say I haven't spent any money in the form of promoting since starting a podcast, Courtney Elmer, this is blowing my mind. This is all been organic and because of the SEO training that you gave us, and I am so grateful for this community that you've created. And for all the support that you and your coaches give to us while starting a podcast. I'm still in all I think, but I wanted to express my gratitude today and share some wins. So if I have picked Do your interest enough to get you wondering, okay, maybe this little idea in the back of my mind about starting a podcast is something I need to give some more serious consideration.
